FredRest vs FlightDose
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
FredRest
This app calculates crew rest schedules for pilots based on flight times, transition periods, and the number of rest blocks. It offers options for specifying rest block lengths or ratios for 4-block schedules.
- Input flight start and end times
- Calculate transition time
- Supports 3 or 4 rest blocks
- Specify rest block lengths or ratios
- Choose rest block sequences
- Generates crew rest schedules

Input the flight's start time, and time, and the transition time (length of time allotted between rest blocks for pilots to switch places). Then select whether there will be a total of 3 or 4 rest blocks. If there are 3 rest blocks, simply hit the "Calculate" button and your crew rest schedule will be created for you. If there are 4 rest blocks (2 shorter blocks and 2 longer blocks), then first select whether you would like to specify the length of the short block, the length of the long block, or the ratio between the short and long blocks (short = __% of long). Then input the value, and finally select one of four possible sequences of short and long blocks. Hit "Calculate" and the app will do the rest, displaying exactly what your crew rest schedule will be. How much radiation did your last flight expose you to? Find out... FlightDose is a scientific aviation tool for estimating exposure to cosmic radiation during flight, based on established aerospace radiation modeling principles. At its core, FlightDose leverages methodologies derived from CARI-7, a widely recognized aviation radiation dose model developed for analyzing radiation exposure at altitude. By combining route geometry with altitude, latitude, geomagnetic shielding, and solar conditions, FlightDose provides informed estimates of in-flight radiation dose in a clear, modern interface. Cosmic radiation increases rapidly at cruising altitudes and varies significantly by latitude and flight path. FlightDose makes this invisible environmental factor understandable using real aviation physics and data-driven calculations. What FlightDose does • Estimates in-flight radiation dose using CARI-7–based modeling concepts • Accounts for altitude, geographic position, and Earth’s magnetic field • Supports route-based and flight-based dose estimation • Presents results clearly without unnecessary complexity Who it’s for • Pilots and aircrew • Frequent flyers • Aviation professionals and students • Engineers, researchers, and science-focused travelers • Anyone curious about estimating radiation dose during flights Important information FlightDose is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It is not endorsed by the FAA and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or risk assessment. All dose values are estimates and should not be used for clinical, regulatory, or occupational decision-making. FlightDose Premium is available as an auto-renewing subscription: • Monthly: $4.99/month • Annual: $49.99/year Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: FlightDose at 5.0 against FredRest's 4.5. FredRest's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FlightDose sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. FredRest asks for nothing beyond the download.
FlightDose holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 8 and 7 respectively. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
