Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: eLog Plus at 100% against Smarthop's 25%. Smarthop's advantage is rating (3.6 vs 3.0) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Smarthop holds the better App Store score, 3.6 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smarthop has 20 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of Smarthop's written reviews are positive against 100% of eLog Plus's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Smarthop ships an update every 2 weeks, eLog Plus every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
