Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: FORMAT Virtual at none against HWX Digital Studio's 1. FORMAT Virtual also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). HWX Digital Studio's advantage is ratings volume (14 vs 2) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

FORMAT Virtual holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HWX Digital Studio has 14 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
HWX Digital Studio ships an update every 5 months, FORMAT Virtual every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
