About

Optics Workbench

Optics Workbench is a local-first engineering calculator for optics and machine-vision work. Use the Camera Lens Selector to combine camera resolution, pixel size, working distance, and horizontal field of view. The app immediately estimates focal length, magnification, object-space pixel size, theoretical resolving power, vertical field of view, and target height. See the geometry in a live optical diagram, compare bundled technical lens examples, browse a read-only component library, and generate a shareable report image using the native iOS Share Sheet. Built for engineers, integrators, researchers, students, and anyone evaluating an imaging setup: • 15 bundled camera presets • 9 sensor-format references • 20 technical lens examples • Manual camera and geometry inputs • Metric and U.S. customary display units • English and Simplified Chinese • Local calculations with no account or backend • No ads, subscriptions, in-app purchases, analytics, or tracking Optics Workbench provides simplified engineering estimates. Verify image circle, working distance, distortion, resolving power, field coverage, tolerances, and mounting constraints with current vendor documentation and physical testing before final selection.
