This is a solo hand crafted game made by Nat Russell and I'm trying to bring back what phone games were really about - buying a game for a small price and playing it. Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Ultra Blade at 4.5 against Letter Launch's 4.0. Ultra Blade also leads on ratings volume (78 vs 4) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). Letter Launch's advantage is review sentiment (90% vs 68%) and price ($0.99 vs $3.49). On ads, in-app purchases, chart position and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Ultra Blade holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ultra Blade has 78 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of Ultra Blade's written reviews are positive against 90% of Letter Launch's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Ultra Blade ships an update weekly, Letter Launch every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
