Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Sequence at 4.3 against ModelPlay's 3.0. Sequence also leads on ratings volume (65 vs 8). ModelPlay's advantage is review sentiment (27% vs 0%) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Sequence sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per year and ModelPlay sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Sequence holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sequence has 65 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Sequence's written reviews are positive against 27% of ModelPlay's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Sequence ships an update every 10 days, ModelPlay every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
