Verdict
The clearest difference is price: DZ Reader at Free against E's $1.99. DZ Reader also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). E's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 3.9) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On review sentiment, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

DZ Reader is free to download; E costs $1.99 up front. DZ Reader sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. E asks for nothing beyond the download.
E holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: E has 46 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of DZ Reader's written reviews are positive against 80% of E's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
DZ Reader ships an update every 3 weeks, E monthly. The most recent releases landed on August 17, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
