Speed Comp
Read full descriptionHide full description
Volume that keeps up with the wind. Open the throttle and the wind takes your music with it. Speed Comp raises the volume as you speed up and eases it back as you slow — so you keep your hands where they belong instead of on the volume buttons. If it moves, it works — boats, jet skis, motorcycles, ATVs, golf carts, snowmobiles, and whatever else you ride. Your iPhone drives the Bluetooth speaker, helmet headset or headphones; Speed Comp drives the volume. THREE MOVING PARTS Pick your range. Choose the speed where compensation should start and the speed where it should top out, in MPH or KM/H. Below your minimum, the app leaves your volume alone. Set your baseline. Tap Enable at a volume that sounds right while stopped. That level becomes the floor — Speed Comp only ever adds to it, and never turns you down below where you set it. Ride. GPS speed drives the volume continuously, screen off, app in the background. A Live Activity on the Lock Screen shows it running, with a Stop button one tap away. BUILT FOR THE WAY AUDIO ACTUALLY WORKS • Works with your player. Speed Comp adjusts the system volume, so Spotify, podcasts, audiobooks and everything else follow along. No per-app setup. • Try it parked. A built-in simulation ramps a fake speed from a standstill to your maximum through the same path as real GPS. Dial in your curve at the dock or in the garage, not at thirty knots. • Your speed stays yours. Location is read on your iPhone, turned into a volume level on your iPhone, and never leaves it. No account, no ads, no tracking, no location history. FREE, FOR AS LONG AS YOU LIKE Speed compensation itself is free and never expires. Without a subscription each session runs for up to two hours, then stops — start it again and you get another two. PLUS lifts the session limit and adds up to three saved profiles, so a bowrider and a motorcycle can each have their own curve. PRO adds unlimited profiles, Loudness Enhancer — a smooth glide between the volume steps instead of a jump — and a Now Playing card with transport controls for Apple Music. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple Account and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Manage or cancel any time in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. WHERE IT WORKS, AND WHERE IT DOESN'T Built for your phone driving a speaker or headset in the open air, where wind is the noise you are fighting. Not really for newer cars: a modern stereo manages its own volume and often already compensates, so there is little left for Speed Comp to do. Verdict
The clearest difference is device support: OAN Live at 4 against Speed Comp's 1. OAN Live also leads on iOS requirement (15.2 vs 17.0). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. OAN Live sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $5.99 per month and Speed Comp sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
