Cortex Culture

Cortex is another way to build your general knowledge. Read. Play. Remember. Discover a subject through a series of short cards. Test yourself with new challenges every day. Then practise, so that what you learn actually stays. No endless feed to scroll. On Cortex, every subject has a beginning, a middle and an end. THE SERIES One subject, one series, a few minutes at a time. History, science, geopolitics, the arts, economics, ideas: each series takes a subject all the way, through short illustrated cards. For example: - Cuba 1962: thirteen days on the edge of nuclear war - Marie Curie: the light and the poison - Chips and Taiwan: the object nobody can make alone - Simone de Beauvoir: what The Second Sex actually says Each card takes about two minutes to read. You move forward card after card, and a final ten-question test brings the series to a close. THE DAILY CHALLENGES Every day, new challenges to put your knowledge to the test. - Place a country, recognise its flag or find its capital. - Identify the painter behind a work. - Work out who someone is from a handful of clues. - Put dates, quotations and ideas back in their context. Your points count towards the leaderboard of the day. PRACTICE Reading something once is not always enough to remember it. The practice paths bring you back to the knowledge that matters, and especially to what you got wrong. Capitals of the world, twentieth-century leaders, great paintings to recognise: work through short sessions and watch your mastery grow. WITH FRIENDS Add your friends and follow their activity in your feed. See the series they finish, discover what they are reading, and compare your scores on the daily challenges. AN APP BUILT FOR LEARNING, NOT FOR SCROLLING - No endless feed. - No data sold. - Usage measurement is anonymous, tied to no account, and can be switched off in the settings. Cortex is available in English and French.
