Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ffmpeg at none against Remux's 4. ffmpeg also leads on rating (4.9 vs 4.7). Remux's advantage is ratings volume (695 vs 14) and review sentiment (63% vs 50%). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

ffmpeg holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Remux has 695 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Remux's written reviews are positive against 50% of ffmpeg's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Remux ships an update monthly, ffmpeg fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
