Plan a walk in the Schwarzwald, walk it with the phone in your pocket, and keep every summit you have stood on – with a signal and without. Schwarzwald Wanderschuh is made by people who walk here themselves. The app has been growing since 2023 alongside the community at schwarzwaldwanderschuh.de, which contributes the places, the photographs and the corrections. VERSION 2.0 – REBUILT FROM THE GROUND UP After a long time without changes, the app has been rebuilt: a new home screen, a hiking passport of your own, challenges to collect, and every route and place there the first time you open it. READY THE FIRST TIME YOU OPEN IT The routes, the summits, the waterfalls and the huts are in the app the moment it is installed. Nothing has to be downloaded first – just open it, on the way to the trailhead if need be. WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL There is rarely a reliable signal on a ridge, and that is exactly what the app is built for. Download the map for your area before you set off and the tiles, routes, descriptions and photographs sit on the phone. The navigator needs no connection at all. 53 ROUTES THROUGH THE SCHWARZWALD From the Westweg to the Baden-Baden panorama trail, the Ortenau wine path and the Wutach gorge – day circuits as readily as multi-day stages. Every route carries its track, its length, walking time, difficulty, the places it passes and photographs from along it. Filter by difficulty, by circular routes, or by whatever is nearest to you. A MAP THAT KNOWS THE FOREST A topographic map with the paths on it and with what matters while you are walking marked: 950 summits from the Feldberg down, 77 waterfalls, the cirque lakes and mountain lakes, lookout towers, castles and ruins, huts and upland inns. Tap a point and read what is there – and see what other people photographed there. TAKES YOU ALONG THE ROUTE Start a route and the app shows what is behind you, what is still to come, the forecast for the height you are at, and a warning when you stray off the line. At the end the walk goes into your own history. CHALLENGES TO COLLECT The Schwarzwald Crown – twenty-four places that between them make up the Black Forest, from the Feldberg to the raised bog on the Hohloh. Beside it: Waterfalls of the Schwarzwald, Cirque and Mountain Lakes, Lookout Towers, and Castles, Monasteries and Ruins. A point ticks itself off as soon as you come near it with GPS switched on. YOUR HIKING PASSPORT A walking history that belongs to you: every route walked and every place reached, with the date, your own notes, and the summits you picked up along the way. Keep it to yourself or publish it – and read other people's. MORE IN YOUR POCKET • Weather for the height you are at, not for the nearest town • The towns and villages around the paths • Peak detection – hold the phone up and it names the mountains on the horizon • Chat and a forum with other walkers, and a shared stream of photographs • Add a place yourself, where you are standing, with a photograph TWO LANGUAGES German and English, switched inside the app. The app is free and carries no advertising.
