Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: ResMon at 100% against Focus & Fish's 62%. ResMon also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 18.0). Focus & Fish's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 5 days vs fortnightly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ResMon sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Focus & Fish sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Focus & Fish holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 10 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of ResMon's written reviews are positive against 62% of Focus & Fish's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ResMon ships an update fortnightly, Focus & Fish every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
