Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Rex at 100% against Merge Alphabet Evolution's 25%. Merge Alphabet Evolution's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 11) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Rex sells 11 one-off in-app purchases. Merge Alphabet Evolution asks for nothing beyond the download.
Merge Alphabet Evolution holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 7 and 26 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Rex's written reviews are positive against 25% of Merge Alphabet Evolution's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Rex ships an update every 3 months, Merge Alphabet Evolution every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
