Draft night moves fast. DraftMatrix keeps you ahead of it. DraftMatrix is a live fantasy hockey draft board built around tiered rankings. Instead of a flat list, players are grouped into tiers per position — Centers, Wings, Defense, Goalies — so you can see scarcity at a glance, and when a tier is about to run dry the board warns you before it's too late. BUILT FOR IN-PERSON DRAFTS Online draft rooms give you a live board, a pick clock and best available at a glance. Draft around a table and you're usually back to paper. DraftMatrix is designed to take that online drafting experience and bring it to your offline draft: mark each pick as it's called, and the board, the tiers, the clock and your roster keep up. FREE TO DOWNLOAD • The board, tiers, search, filters and draft guide are free • Your first three picks to your own team are free • DraftMatrix Pro, a one-time in-app purchase, unlocks unlimited picks in every draft. No subscription • Bought DraftMatrix before it was free? Pro is already yours, at no charge TRACK THE DRAFT • Tap a player when another team drafts them — one tap, crossed out • Star players onto your roster; undo any mistap instantly • Draft clock tracks the round, overall pick, and how many picks until your turn (snake or linear) • Live Activity: the draft clock on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island • Keepers supported — marked drafted without advancing the pick clock KNOW WHO'S LEFT • Tier counters warn when a tier runs low and flag the last player • Best Available shows the top remaining player at every position • Roster needs: "Still need C 1 · D 2 · G 1" against your league's lineup • Filter by position, search every list, or hide drafted players • Bookmark targets before the draft and filter the board to them AI SUGGESTIONS, FULLY PRIVATE Stuck between two players? Apple Intelligence analyzes your roster, your open starter slots and the remaining pool, and recommends a pick with a plain-English rationale — entirely on your device. Nothing about your draft ever leaves your iPad or iPhone. (Requires a device with Apple Intelligence.) MADE FOR DRAFT DAY • Built for iPhone Duo: unfold for your board and your draft side by side; fold it mid-draft and pick up right where you left off • A quick setup guide on first launch: number of teams, your draft slot and roster • Siri and Shortcuts: "Suggest a pick in DraftMatrix", "Show my team" • Multiple drafts with independent boards — run two leagues side by side • Draft state syncs between your devices through your personal iCloud • Import your own rankings from a CSV, or export the board • Works offline: cached rankings and a built-in snapshot keep the board alive • Keeps the screen awake, dark mode, full keyboard shortcuts on iPad Rankings are compiled from publicly published expert fantasy hockey rankings and public average-draft-position data, positions from public roster data; tiers are computed on your device. No account, no ads, no tracking, no data collected. DraftMatrix is an independent draft tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any professional hockey league, team, or ranking publisher.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: DraftMatrix at none against FanGraphs's shown. DraftMatrix also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 69%) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 weeks). FanGraphs's advantage is ratings volume (407 vs 2) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs paid). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

DraftMatrix holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. Written reviews point the same way: 69% of FanGraphs's written reviews are positive against 100% of DraftMatrix's.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

FanGraphs ships an update every 2 weeks, DraftMatrix every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
