About

NavCalc Dynamic

This app calculates the course and speed needed to counteract current and wind effects for navigation. It visually displays these calculations on a compass rose, dynamically updating as parameters change. Useful for learning and solving real-world sailing problems.

Highlights
  • Calculate Course to Steer (CtS)
  • Calculate Speed over Ground (SoG)
  • Visual compass rose display
  • Dynamic parameter updates
  • Magnetic variation input
  • Leeway and wind direction input

NavCalc is a simple navigation calculator. Given a desired heading, boat speed, and the set and drift of current, NavCalc will display the Course to Steer (CtS) and Speed over Ground (SoG) that will be achieved on that course given the current. NavCalc draws a neat little picture of the heading, current vector, and course to steer on a 360º compass rose which includes both degrees True and Magnetic (if you enter a Magnetic Variation). NavCalc also allows you to enter degrees of leeway and wind direction, and will take leeway into account when calculating the CtS. NavCalc will dynamically update the drawing as you change any of the parameters (heading, boat speed, current set or drift, variation). NavCalc can be used to solve navigation problems like the ones you might find on the tests for Coastal Navigation courses from US Sailing or ASA. It’s also useful for building intuition about how current affects your boat’s course and speed over ground (or velocity made good) since it updates dynamically as you change any parameter.

Navoa is the boat tracker built for Icelandic waters. Navoa combines live tracking, real AIS-data, an automatic logbook, and a multi-channel SOS system integrated directly with search-and-rescue in Iceland. No third-party dispatcher. No detours. YOUR SAFETY NET AT SEA: Navoa's multi-channel SOS is designed for the moments you hope never come. One tap sends your alert to three channels at once: • The Icelandic Coast Guard - direct SAR integration, no third-party dispatcher in between • Your emergency contact - notified instantly by SMS • Nearby Navoa users - vessels actively tracking within 30 nautical miles receive a push notification You'll see the status of every alert in real time: server received, coast guard contacted, emergency contact notified, nearby vessels alerted. Because in an emergency, knowing your call was heard matters. LIVE AIS IN ICELANDIC WATERS: See what's around you right inside Navoa. • Detailed AIS coverage of Icelandic waters • Data from both satellite and terrestrial stations • Tap any vessel for name, MMSI, type, dimensions, speed, and last seen • Know who's near you before you can see them on the horizon BE SEEN BY THE PEOPLE WHO CARE: • Share your live position publicly on navoa.is • Family and friends can follow your trip from shore with no app required, all shown on navoa.is • Start tracking with a single tap AN AUTOMATIC LOGBOOK FOR EVERY TRIP: Every trip is logged for you. No notebooks needed and no manual entries. • Full route on a map for every voyage • Distance, duration, and average speed recorded automatically • Browse your trip history any time • Share any trip with a tap BUILT FOR ICELAND: Navoa isn't a global app adapted for Iceland - it's built here, for these waters, these conditions, and this coastline. From integration with Icelandic search-and-rescue to AIS coverage tuned for Icelandic waters, everything in Navoa exists to make sailing here safer and simpler. Cast off. We'll keep the log. Download Navoa and make every trip on the water safer, smarter, and remembered. Note: SOS and tracking features require an active internet or data connection. Navoa is a supplementary safety tool and does not replace required marine safety equipment or official emergency procedures.
