About

ABC Trails

Features

Your child writes the word cat. The whole word sits on one line above the board, and each letter turns gold as it is finished. When the last letter is done, a voice reads the word aloud. ABC Trails is for children aged 3 to 6 who are learning to write. They trace letters, numbers, shapes and words with a finger or an Apple Pencil. Every instruction is spoken, so nobody has to read. WORDS Two islands hold words. Short Words has 12 three-letter words: cat, dog, sun, pig, hat, fox, box, bus, hen, cup, jam and van. Sight Words has 16 kindergarten words: the, and, see, can, go, to, we, me, my, is, it, in, up, you, look and big. A sight word ends with a short spoken sentence and a picture, such as "I see a bee." The first two words on each island are free to try. ONE DEVICE, UP TO FOUR CHILDREN Each child picks an animal badge: fox, owl, frog, whale, lion, penguin, rabbit or turtle. Each keeps their own stickers, levels, name for the My Name island, handwriting style and writing hand. With two or more children, the app opens on the badges and each child taps their own. Progress from an earlier version is kept and becomes the first child's. THREE STEPS FOR EVERY LETTER First a wide road, then a dotted line, then writing with no guide. A small animated pencil shows where to start and which way to go. The app checks each stroke for path, direction and order, and answers with a short spoken cue. A wobbly line is fine, and nothing is ever marked in red. Every finished letter earns a sticker for the album. THE ISLANDS Shapes & Lines, ABC (capital letters), abc (small letters), 123 (numbers 0 to 20), My Name, Dots with 42 connect-the-dots pictures, Mazes with 32 mazes, Short Words and Sight Words. Stroke order matches common US school handwriting, in Print or Modern Print. FOR GROWN-UPS: THE RANGER'S HUT A grown-ups' check opens the ranger's hut. The check is an instruction written in words, such as "Tap the signs for twenty-seven, then fourteen", with six signposts to choose from. Inside is the ranger's log, with one page per child: progress on each island, the letters that are still tricky, name, handwriting style, writing hand and badge. Trail rules holds the sound and vibration settings and the list of children, and there is a help page. FREE AND FULL Shapes & Lines, the letters A to E, the numbers 0 to 3, six dot pictures, eight mazes and the first two words on each word island are free. Other islands sit behind a raised drawbridge on the map. A child who taps one hears that a grown-up can open it, and the grown-ups' check leads to a list of every island and what it holds. ABC Trails Full is a one-time purchase with no subscription and opens them all, including islands we add in later versions. Family Sharing is on. MADE FOR THE KIDS CATEGORY - No ads, accounts, analytics or third-party code - Works without internet, and the app collects no data - Your children's names and progress stay on your device - Purchases and links to websites are behind the grown-ups' check ENGLISH LETTERS, 29 LANGUAGES ABC Trails teaches the English alphabet and English words. Letter names, example words and the words your child writes stay in English. Menus and spoken instructions come in 29 languages.
