WikiSpaces3D vs Digital Elements

WikiSpaces 3D is about enabling people to go places *virtually*, where they couldn't go otherwise (physically), by providing a collection of such places as 3d-scans, spaces, explorable in VR (yes, also with vr glasses). (3D-scans made with Matterport.) There are already some really cool spaces: from Boeing 747 cockpits to Egyptian tombs or the LeBron James Arena! (search for those in the app!) But why? Mainly, it's about providing educational value and making knowledge accessible: in times of pandemics, students are not able to visit interesting places like museums or galleries; but if said place has been 3d-scanned and shared on WikiSpaces, students can visit it virtually. But it's really about everyone: some of the spaces allow exclusive visits to places you could normally never go to, such as a Boeing 747 cockpit (unless your friend's friend is a pilot of course, ha), or simply places far far away. Really free? Yes absolutely! Just like Wikipedia aims to share knowledge for free, WikiSpaces does too. Building WikiSpaces has been possible only because the EU has provided generous funding (subsidies) for this project. What about user-submitted content though? Euclid’s Elements stands as the most widely read mathematical treatise of all times. Delements is an innovative, digital and interactive edition of this monumental book, in modern Greek. By combining geometry, history of mathematics, as well as digital technology, Delements aims to provide high school students with a unique opportunity: (a) to reconstruct Euclid’s demonstrations through interactive diagrams; (b) to delve into historical insights about ancient mathematics; and (c) to cultivate software development skills. Delements includes: (a) The ancient Greek text of Euclid’s Elements from the edition by J. L. Heiberg. (b) Interactive diagrams for many propositions of Euclid's Elements. (c) Selected recordings of the ancient text as well as other audio-visual material. (d) Ideas for the pedagogical utilization of thematic units from the secondary education’s curriculum. This application is part of the project ‘Digital Elements’, which is supported by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the 3rd Call for ‘Science and Society’: Nodes of Research, Innovation, and knowledge diffusion. It is hosted by the Laboratory for the Electronic Processing of Historical Archives within the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
