The trial does not renew or charge automatically. A one-time in-app purchase permanently unlocks Full Version. There are no subscriptions. Customers who previously purchased the paid app automatically keep Full Version access and do not need to purchase it again. Network and privacy Core features such as heading, sensor altitude, and barometric pressure generally work offline. Nearby addresses, maps, in-app purchases, and purchase restoration require a network connection. The app contains no ads and does not collect personal data. Permissions • Location: GPS altitude, coordinates, speed, sunrise and sunset, maps, and addresses • Motion & Fitness: pressure and altimeter readings on supported devices • Camera and Photos: only when capturing and saving watermarked photos. Photo access is add-only; the app does not read your photo library. Device capabilities and readings may vary with hardware, system version, environment, and location signal. HDR watermarked photos require iPhone 12 or later with iOS 17 or later. The watermark camera is available on camera-equipped iPhones and iPads, with HDR features offered according to device capabilities.

You know that person. Phone blazing in a dark cinema. Ringtone cutting through a piano concerto. Flash firing at a concert. Don't be that person. Blackout is a single-tap utility that does three things the moment you activate it: Dims down your screen brightness, silences your volume to zero, and locks your camera flash permanently off within the in-app camera. No settings to dig through. No toggles to remember. Just tap, and disappear into the dark. What Blackout does: Screen blackout. No blinding brightness in the dark, no light pollution for the people around you. Volume zero. Drops to silent instantly. No surprise notifications, no accidental sounds, no embarrassing ringtones mid-performance. Flash locked off. Built-in camera keeps flash disabled permanently. Shoot the moment freely without blinding anyone around you. Made for: Concerts, live music, classical performances, theatres, cinemas, comedy shows, sports events, opera, ballet, lectures, religious services, anywhere you need to be invisible. One tap. That's it.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Altitude Compass at 5.0 against Blackout Mode's 4.6. Altitude Compass also leads on device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Blackout Mode's advantage is update cadence (daily vs every 3 days) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs paid). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Altitude Compass sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Blackout Mode sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Altitude Compass holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 17 and 8 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 95% of Altitude Compass's written reviews are positive against 100% of Blackout Mode's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Altitude Compass ships an update every 3 days, Blackout Mode daily. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
