Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Coin Scanner at 4.2 against DiecastDB's 2.2. Coin Scanner also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 16 months) and ratings volume (2K vs 11). DiecastDB's advantage is review sentiment (57% vs 22%) and in-app purchases (none vs 4). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Coin Scanner holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 2.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Coin Scanner has 2K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of DiecastDB's written reviews are positive against 22% of Coin Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

DiecastDB ships an update every 16 months, Coin Scanner fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on June 11, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
