On August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Arabia, and in Upper Egypt the sky will stay dark for more than six minutes, a totality no eclipse will match until 2114. The Eclipse App is your companion for the whole day: an interactive map of the path of totality and a live countdown that tells you when your eclipse glasses go on and when they come off. ▶ YOUR ECLIPSE See exactly what the eclipse looks like from your location: whether you'll see totality, how long it lasts, how much of the Sun is covered, and when every phase begins and ends, down to the second. Outside the path? You'll see your partial eclipse times, and how far you are from totality. Preview your sky in advance, and turn on Day-of Alerts so nothing sneaks up on you. ▶ THE MAP Explore the path of totality from the Strait of Gibraltar across Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, and on over Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. Tap any spot on the eclipse map to see its timing and how long totality lasts there. Travel mode shows how long the drive or the transit trip into the path takes from cities nearby. ▶ HEAT, DUST AND CLOUDS In 2027 the Sun stands high over much of the path, nearly overhead in Egypt and Arabia, and in August the heat and the desert dust matter as much as the clouds. Historical maps of heat, dust haze and cloud cover show what each spot has typically been like at eclipse hour, so you can plan for shade, water and the clearest sky. ▶ COUNTDOWN+ One purchase covers every eclipse. Rehearse eclipse day at your own pace: walk through every phase, learn when glasses go on and come off, and try the camera ahead of time. On the day, the countdown tells you what's happening and what to watch for, a spoken Audio Guide keeps you hands-free, and the countdown stays live on your Lock Screen. Take photos and videos without leaving the countdown. Scene mode shows the strange light around you, and Sun mode helps you aim and expose for the Sun itself. Leave a video running and keep the sound of totality: the hush, the gasps, the cheers. ▶ CHASER Clear skies for the 2027 eclipse. The Chaser Index scores every place in the path out of 100 and ranks the best spots in reach of your base. Shortlist five and compare them factor by factor. Every spot gets a leave-by time, and in the final days come cloud forecasts, smoke and haze, and satellite images. Chaser covers one eclipse and includes Countdown+. ▶ RELIVE Afterward, press play. Your photos and videos play back on the eclipse's own timeline, just as they happened. It's the closest thing to standing back under the Moon's shadow. Sign in to back up your spots and Relives to your account. ▶ GOOD TO KNOW - Free, no account needed and no subscriptions. Countdown+ and Chaser are one-time purchases. - Available in eight languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic and Japanese. - More eclipses: look back at 2017, 2024 and 2026, and get ready for 2028 and 2030. A note on safety: outside of totality, only look at the Sun through certified eclipse glasses or solar filters. The app tells you when, and proper glasses do the protecting. A total solar eclipse is brief, and it doesn't wait. We built this app so you can spend those minutes looking up. theeclipse.app/privacy theeclipse.app/terms
