One partner. One conversation that keeps going. Babylon is a language exchange app where you talk to the same person every day. They have a name, a face, somewhere they are from and something they do for a living — so you build one conversation over weeks instead of starting from nothing every time you open an app. TALK, OR TYPE Say your side out loud and hear theirs spoken back in a native voice. Or type, quietly, on the bus. Both work, and you can switch in the middle of a conversation. WHEN YOU GET STUCK Tap any message for a translation. Tap again for a transliteration when the writing system is still new to you, so a wall of unfamiliar script turns into something you can actually sound out. PLAY OUT A SCENE Your partner will sometimes suggest acting a situation out — ordering when the thing you wanted is off the menu, telling a colleague you cannot take on more work. You are given something to accomplish. They are not told what it is. When the scene ends you find out how close you got. CHOOSE WHO YOU ARE LEARNING WITH Pick your partner's name, where they come from, how formally they speak and what they sound like. Change any of it later. 134 LANGUAGES Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, German, Portuguese — and plenty that never get an app of their own. NO STREAK TO PROTECT There is no leaderboard and nothing to lose by taking a week off. It is a conversation. It will still be there when you come back. Babylon offers an optional subscription for unlimited conversation. You can try it without one. EULA: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula
