With 14 vowels and 33 consonants, it is the fourth most widely adopted writing system in the world and used for over 120 languages. Some of the most notable ones include Sanskrit, Hindi, and Nepali. This app is designed to help you become comfortable with recognizing more and more complex letter forms until you can read and construct full-words. Start first by studying the vowels, practicing writing them down and then trying the quiz. Then try the quiz with the diacritics. Then, move on to consonants. This may take more time, as there are many consonants. Then, try the quiz with the consonant-vowel ligatures. Finally, try the quiz with the conjunct consonants. The word scramble game lets you try putting full Hindi words together. You can also try the typing game if you have a Devanagari keyboard installed on your phone.

Welcome to the Amrita Learning Reading App, specially designed for Adults. The Amrita app is a finalist in the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE Competition. Lessons start with learning letter sounds and continue to multi-page stories and articles, with vocabulary support in English and Spanish. The Amrita app features: - Complete instruction of the alphabet sounds and word-building skills with short, engaging videos. - Reading curriculum that features a series of stories interwoven with factual Life Skills passages. - Learning games, activities, and music within reading passages. - Reading Library with fun and interesting stories and articles with 2 special sections on self-empowerment articles and Read-with-your-child stories. The content is structured into two locales: ESL (English as a Second Language) and NS (Native Speaker). Upon entering the program, the learner is assigned to one of the locales depending on their native language. Within each locale, small learning units are sequenced to build on previously learned skills. Specific skills to decode words, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension are emphasized. The materials in the two locales are designed very differently, but both stress the use of engaging material to reduce the high dropout rate that has plagued adult learning programs.
