イージータイマーの最大の特徴は「残り時間の見やすさ」です。多くのタイマーアプリでは、残り時間がカウントダウン表示されます。しかし、イージータイマーは、子供でも残り時間が一目でわかるような視覚的なUIを採用しています。砂時計のようなイメージで、例えば赤色に塗りつぶされた円の図形が時間の経過とともに扇状に消えていき、最後には完全に消えてしまいます。色と形で残り時間を表示するので、まだ時間を理解できない子供にも「この赤い丸が消えたら終わりだよ」と簡単に時間を共有して意思疎通できるようになっています。 従来のタイマーアプリは大人にとっては理解しやすいものの、2歳、3歳といった小さな子供にとってはまだ時間という概念がありません。私も子育て中のパパとして、「おもちゃ屋さんでおもちゃ見てもいいけれど、あと5分だけ見ていいよ」と言っても、その「5分」や「ちょっと」がどれくらいの時間なのか、子供たちはそれがどれくらいの時間なのか理解できません。そこで、もっとわかりやすく時間を伝えられるツールはないかと考え、この「イージータイマー」を開発したのです。 このアプリを作る際に、子供に時間を伝えるだけでなく、自主的に動いてもらいたいと思いました。子供にアラームをセットしてもらえるように、色を９色用意して、さらに図形も丸だけでなく四角や星なども選べるようにしました。 子供と一緒に使うときは、まず子供に色や形を選んでもらい、時間をセットします。そして「この青い丸がなくなったら、お家に帰るでいい？」と聞き、子供が理解したらスタートボタンを押してもらいます。 もちろん、このアプリを使ったからと言って、いやいや期の子が100%思い通りに動いてくれるわけではありません。しかし、少しでも「あとこれぐらい」の時間感覚を伝え、コミュニケーションのツールとして使えたらと考えています。 うちの息子はこのアプリを見て喜びますし、時間が終わったら、自分から「終わりにするね」と言ってくれることが増えました。時には一度で終わらないこともありますが、それでも「残り時間がどれぐらいか」を伝える手助けになっていて、何度も試しているうちに納得してくれます。 イージータイマーは、そのシンプルさから子育て世代だけでなく、勉強中の学生など、時間を具体的な数字で見るよりも視覚的に把握したい方々にとっても便利なツールです。
