Two halves of a word are sitting on the board. Find the pairs that join into one — SUN and FLOWER, RAIN and BOW — before the clock runs out. DAILY GAME One puzzle a day, the same for every player, with a public Leaderboard. Match every pair before the timer ends and see where you land. CHALLENGE MODE A hundred levels that get harder as you climb. Three attempts on a level: burn all three and you wait out a cooldown, or spend Gems to skip it. PLAY WITH FRIENDS Add a friend, share a Game Code, and race them head to head. Work the same board and take the higher score, or claim the pairs before they can. PRACTICE Play as many boards as you like, at Easy, Medium or Hard. EARN REWARDS Collect Gems and stars as you master each puzzle. Spend Gems to skip a Challenge Mode cooldown, or to unlock a Daily Game you missed. Easy gives you sixty seconds and six pairs; Hard gives you twenty-five seconds and ten. Daily Game scores are checked on our servers, so a place on the Leaderboard is a real one.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Connectionary at 100% against Play Colors's 16%. Play Colors's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 3.7) and ratings volume (8K vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Play Colors sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Connectionary sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Play Colors holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Play Colors has 8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 16% of Play Colors's written reviews are positive against 100% of Connectionary's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Play Colors ships an update every 2 weeks, Connectionary fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
