Thunder & Lightning vs Heightly
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Thunder & Lightning
Measure the distance to loud events like thunder, fireworks, or rocket launches by timing the visual and auditory cues. Adjust for temperature for greater accuracy and choose your preferred units. It also functions as a stopwatch, speed-of-sound calculator, and unit converter.

Thunder & Lightning has (barely) one practical purpose: to measure your distance to a sound source. It works for thunder and lightning, fireworks, rocket launches, or other loud events visible from a (hopefully safe) distance away. Just press the Lightning button when you see the event, and Thunder when you hear it. Modern technology does the rest. To perform this trivial task even more accurately, you can enter the temperature of your surroundings to more precisely calculate the speed of sound. You can also choose between U.S./Imperial and metric measurements depending on your personal unit preferences. Should its intended purpose be insufficiently useful, this application can also be used as a reasonably precise (if redundant) stopwatch, a speed-of-sound calculator, a Fahrenheit/Celsius converter, or as an odometer if you happen to be traveling at precisely the speed of sound. Note: Use of application while operating supersonic aircraft is not recommended or approved.
Heightly

Heightly is a focused height-measurement and 3D object-scanning app for LiDAR-equipped iPhones. Frame a complete person or object, tap the intended target, and hold the phone steady. Heightly combines LiDAR depth with the floor and nearby surfaces, then waits for multiple readings to agree before locking the height. Know exactly what you are measuring • Tap a visible target instead of measuring whatever happens to be largest • Use the highlighted outline, crosshair, and optional scan mesh as live feedback • Recognize supporting surfaces such as floors, tables, and seats • Freeze the camera when a result locks so the target and reading stay clear • View centimeters and feet/inches together 3D Object Scan • Capture an object from multiple angles • Build a textured USDZ model on your iPhone • Estimate model height from the finished main mesh while reducing sparse edge artifacts • Rotate, inspect, or share the completed 3D model Private history • Save frozen person or object snapshots with their measurement overlays • Keep completed 3D models with corrected height, width, and depth • Follow a child’s or family member’s height over time • Choose a history limit from 1 to 500 records • Delete one record or select several at once • Process and store camera frames, photos, depth data, and models on the device • No account required Requirements and measurement notes Live measurement and 3D scanning require a compatible LiDAR-equipped iPhone or iPad. Results can be affected by distance, lighting, reflective or transparent surfaces, occlusion, and scan coverage. Keep the full target visible and move the device slowly. Heightly is intended for everyday reference and is not a substitute for medical, engineering, construction, or other professional measurement.

Verdict
The clearest difference is iOS requirement: Thunder & Lightning at 8.0 against Heightly's 17.0. On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
