Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: PapiRiver at none against Monster Dash's 19. PapiRiver also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.4). Monster Dash's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (2.1K vs 15). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Monster Dash sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. PapiRiver asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

PapiRiver holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Monster Dash has 2.1K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of PapiRiver's written reviews are positive against 62% of Monster Dash's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

PapiRiver ships an update every 6 months, Monster Dash every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
