Verdict
The clearest difference is price: LetterSchool at Free against Math Magic's $0.99. LetterSchool also leads on rating (4.5 vs 3.9) and ratings volume (17K vs 37). Math Magic's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 14) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). On review sentiment, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

LetterSchool is free to download; Math Magic costs $0.99 up front. LetterSchool sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Math Magic asks for nothing beyond the download.
LetterSchool holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: LetterSchool has 17K ratings behind it against 37, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Math Magic's written reviews are positive against 54% of LetterSchool's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Math Magic ships an update monthly, LetterSchool every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 18, 2026.
