Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Megawords at none against Terminology's 2. Megawords also leads on review sentiment (81% vs 71%) and iOS requirement (14.5 vs 18.0). Terminology's advantage is update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 8 months) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 2). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Terminology sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per year. Megawords asks for nothing beyond the download.
Terminology holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Terminology has 1.1K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of Megawords's written reviews are positive against 71% of Terminology's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Megawords ships an update every 8 months, Terminology every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
