iSectionLite vs ACORD Mobile
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
iSectionLite
This engineering app calculates mechanical and structural properties for built-up section members. It supports various international steel shapes and allows input and output in both metric and imperial units.
- Calculates moment of inertia, modulus of section, radius of gyration, area, and weight
- Supports European, American, Canadian, and British steel shapes
- Input and output in mm or inch units
- Calculations in principal axes
- Light version with limitations on hot rolled library and flange dimensions

iSection: For all structural engineers, steel designers, mechanical engineers: This engineering application for the iPhone or the iPod Touch calculates the mechanical and structural properties of three-plate built up section members. That includes moment of inertia, modulus of section, radius of gyration, area and weight. The calculations are done in both principal axes. This program is particularly useful for analysis and design of indeterminate structures and for calculating actual and allowable (permissible) stresses of structural members (beams, columns, etc.). The input is top flange width, top flange thickness, bottom flange width, bottom flange thickness, web depth and web thickness. The top flange and bottom flange dimensions can vary. You can select a section from a large library of hot rolled shapes: European IPE, HEA, HEB, HEM and American W shapes Canadian W metric shapes and British universal beams and columns (UB and UC shapes). More shapes from other countries will be added in the next releases. The input can be in mm or inch units, the output of area, Ixx, Sxx, Sxt, Sxb, Iyy, Iyt, Iyb, Syy rx, ry, rt, rb, Syt, Syb, depth and neutral axis can be displayed in mm or inch units. The weight can be displayed in kg/m or Lb/ft. This is a light version with limitations: The hot rolled library contains selected American shapes only and the built up section can have only equal top and bottom flanges. For the full version see iSection in the App Store. See also iConcrete in the App Store which designs single and double reinforced concrete rectangular and T beams.

ACORD Mobile is designed for a broad audience; civil engineers, carpenters, technicians, architects, and engineer students alike. ◆ Are you a professional? You often have to provide a section estimate on short notice on-site or at a customer meeting. With ACORD Mobile on your phone, you now have an application that allows you to calculate and optimize your wood or steel beams effortlessly and precisely, wherever you are. ◆ Are you a student? Go effortlessly from theory to practice. Look at diagrams of bending moment, shear, or deflection. Learn the intricacies of Eurocode 3 (steel) and 5 (wood) in a fun and enjoyable way. Download ACORD Mobile and you’ll be able to: • Analyze the static behavior of your element on multiple supports and under any loads • Design floor and roof beams following Eurocode 3 (steel) and 5 (wood) standards • Define your geometry with ease: Multiple spans, boundary conditions, slope, etc. • Define multiple loads in different categories as you please, or use our tools to guide you: -Permanent loads: With the help of our libraries, you can choose to apply predefined floors or roofs and even create your own and save them. Apply self-weight automatically if needed. -Live loads: Choose the category of loaded areas and the usages that apply to your case to apply the characteristic values defined by the European guidelines. -Snow loads: Define your country, zone, and altitude using our tool and maps to aid you. The corresponding snow load will be calculated automatically, considering the slope and the related National Annex. • Perform your analysis and design your beam in a quick and straightforward way: Make the right decisions for your material category and section dimensions using our optimization tool. Verify all relevant displacement and resistance criteria depending on your material and charges. Automatically calculate all Eurocode linear combinations. • See your results in detail: The educational presentation of the detailed equations explains the path and the intermediate calculations leading to the verification results. It allows you to understand in-depth the structural analysis carried out. You get graphs of each Eurocode criterion for each linear combination as well as an envelope. You also get nicely presented interactive diagrams for bending moment (M), shearing force (V), normal force (N), stress (S), displacements(w), rotation(θ), and reactions (R). • Change your analysis parameters and details. • Use the units of your choosing. • Save your studies for later use. *About Pro plan billing* Some of the above features are only available with ACORD Mobile Pro! Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ACORD Mobile at 5.0 against iSectionLite's 2.1. ACORD Mobile also leads on update cadence (every 11 days vs every 46 months). iSectionLite's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ratings volume (13 vs 1). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
