Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MiniXL at none against Utility Spreadsheet's 1. MiniXL also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 5 weeks). Utility Spreadsheet's advantage is ratings volume (728 vs 4) and rating (4.0 vs 3.8). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Utility Spreadsheet sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. MiniXL asks for nothing beyond the download.
Utility Spreadsheet holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Utility Spreadsheet has 728 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Utility Spreadsheet's written reviews are positive against 67% of MiniXL's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Utility Spreadsheet ships an update every 5 weeks, MiniXL every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
