Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: TapID at 100% against Wikipedia's 55%. Wikipedia's advantage is ratings volume (6.4K vs 4) and rating (4.3 vs 4.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Wikipedia holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Wikipedia has 6.4K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 55% of Wikipedia's written reviews are positive against 100% of TapID's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Wikipedia ships an update every 2 weeks, TapID every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
