The Sea Levels Project was born out of a love for the environment, a concern over inaction, and a lack of simple to use educational tools. Almost all scientists agree that the global climate is changing, and that sea levels are rising, with an increase in the rate of rise very likely to be caused by humans. When it comes to action it is of no consequence whether the cause of climate change is man-made or natural - it still poses an increasing threat to humanity.  We believe that education is an essential step for us as a species to find a solution. Whilst no mobile application could ever hope provide an answer we can help by providing an informational tool.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: NASA at 4.8 against SeaLevels's 4.3. NASA also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (64K vs 7). SeaLevels's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 70%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

NASA holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NASA has 64K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of NASA's written reviews are positive against 100% of SeaLevels's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

NASA ships an update every 2 weeks, SeaLevels every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
