StepRace brings classic vector racing back: instead of steering directly left or right, every turn changes your racer's acceleration. Speed and direction carry forward, so planning ahead matters more than fast reflexes. Choose one of nine accelerations. Move previews immediately show which options are safe, which cross the finish line and where a crash awaits. Leave the road and your velocity resets. Features: • 12 handcrafted tracks, from flowing starter courses and free endurance runs to demanding mountain and night circuits • Route and circuit rules with visible, ordered checkpoint areas • Move previews, velocity display and an automatic follow camera • Personal challenges to finish in fewer and fewer moves • A Game Center leaderboard for every track • Live online races against a friend with alternating turns and blocking racing lines • Five free tracks plus permanent Challenge and Elite track-pack unlocks • Direct feedback by email and quick access to App Store ratings • English and German interface • VoiceOver support and scalable controls Like the graph-paper classic, the racer who best anticipates momentum, corners and braking distance wins.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: CUBISTIC at 3.8 against StepRace's 1.8. CUBISTIC also leads on iOS requirement (6.1 vs 17.0). StepRace's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 5) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CUBISTIC sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. StepRace asks for nothing beyond the download.
CUBISTIC holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 1.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 13 and 6 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of StepRace's written reviews are positive against 94% of CUBISTIC's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
StepRace ships an update every 3 days, CUBISTIC every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
