Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Shakespeare at none against Shakespeare's shown. Shakespeare also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (86% vs 67%). Shakespeare's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and device support (4 vs 2). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Shakespeare sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Shakespeare sells 20 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Shakespeare holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 14 and 7 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Shakespeare's written reviews are positive against 67% of Shakespeare's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Shakespeare ships an update every 9 days, Shakespeare fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
