Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: BibleRef at none against Logos Bible's 18. BibleRef also leads on iOS requirement (15.1 vs 18.6). Logos Bible's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (177K vs 180). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Logos Bible sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. BibleRef asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Logos Bible holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Logos Bible has 177K ratings behind it against 180, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of Logos Bible's written reviews are positive against 87% of BibleRef's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Logos Bible ships an update every 2 weeks, BibleRef every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
