Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: TV4 Play at 4.4 against SVT Play's 3.7. SVT Play's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (53% vs 23%). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
TV4 Play holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 23 and 13 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of SVT Play's written reviews are positive against 23% of TV4 Play's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
SVT Play ships an update every 2 weeks, TV4 Play fortnightly. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
