Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ASL Dictionary at 4.7 against Chronos Notes's 4.0. ASL Dictionary also leads on ratings volume (1.3K vs 1). Chronos Notes's advantage is price ($0.99 vs $4.99) and review sentiment (100% vs 82%). On update cadence, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ASL Dictionary costs $4.99 and Chronos Notes $0.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
ASL Dictionary holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ASL Dictionary has 1.3K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of ASL Dictionary's written reviews are positive against 100% of Chronos Notes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ASL Dictionary ships an update every 6 months, Chronos Notes every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
