Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: VaxPhone at 5.0 against Linphone's 2.7. VaxPhone also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). Linphone's advantage is review sentiment (35% vs 0%) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 8 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
VaxPhone holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Linphone has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of Linphone's written reviews are positive against 0% of VaxPhone's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Linphone ships an update every 2 months, VaxPhone every 8 months. Both last shipped on November 6, 2026.
