This application adds the missing compass to the iPad. It either uses the built in magnetic compass (if available) or provides a sun compass (You just have to see the sun and know the time to determine the north direction). Use it for all your outdoor activities whether it's hiking, biking or for a boy scout camp. The sun compass is not affected by magnetic anomalies.

Compass XL costs $0.99 and Find Me $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Compass XL holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Find Me has 21 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Compass XL's written reviews are positive against 9% of Find Me's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Compass XL ships an update every 15 months, Find Me every 35 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
