When my son was 2 all he wanted to do was look at the "Things" on the iPad. I thought he might like this app more than the Notes app, and he did. I'm excited to offer Emoji Explore as a free gift to the world. Simply scroll through the emojis, and if you find one that catches your eye, tap on it to enlarge.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Emoji Explore at none against BrainPOP's 5. Emoji Explore also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs every 2 months) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). BrainPOP's advantage is ratings volume (34K vs 1). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BrainPOP sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Emoji Explore asks for nothing beyond the download.
Emoji Explore holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BrainPOP has 34K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
BrainPOP ships an update every 2 months, Emoji Explore every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 19, 2026 respectively.
