Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Denver Post at free with in-app purchases against Chicago Tribune's subscription. Chicago Tribune's advantage is ratings volume (19K vs 2.1K). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Denver Post sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and Chicago Tribune sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Denver Post against 4.4 for Chicago Tribune. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chicago Tribune has 19K ratings behind it against 2.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 23% of Denver Post's written reviews are positive against 21% of Chicago Tribune's.
Denver Post ships an update monthly, Chicago Tribune every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
