Verdict
Smack and Space Memes both sit at 5.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Space Memes's written reviews are positive against 50% of Smack's. Space Memes also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 months vs every 39 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Smack holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Space Memes has 32 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Smack's written reviews are positive against 100% of Space Memes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Smack ships an update every 39 months, Space Memes every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
