Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: De Tijd at 4.5 against DS Nieuws's 4.0. De Tijd also leads on ads (none vs shown). DS Nieuws's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and review sentiment (28% vs 15%). On price, update cadence, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. De Tijd sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. DS Nieuws asks for nothing beyond the download.
De Tijd holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DS Nieuws has 14 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 15% of De Tijd's written reviews are positive against 28% of DS Nieuws's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
De Tijd ships an update every 2 weeks, DS Nieuws every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
