Sylo Synthesiser allows you to play music, or create sound effects, using sounds you can design yourself. Sylo Synth includes a collection of pre-designed sounds which you can use as they are, tweak them to your heart's desire, or you can make new sounds from scratch. Build sounds from basic waveforms, or capture them from the world around you using the iPad's built-in microphone. Then, tinker with Sylo Synthesiser's filters and other settings to make a sound all your own. Sylo Synthesiser features live time-stretching technology based on granular synthesis and a suite of filters: • Speed up or slow down a recorded sound to use as an instrument • With a regular wavetable synthesiser, higher-pitched notes are also faster, like chipmunks, and lower-pitched notes are also slower, as though they are moving through treacle • But enable Sylo's "Sync Speed" feature, and lower or higher-pitched notes still play back at the same speed, keeping them in sync with each other • Fiddle with the speed control even while you're playing notes: Slow, stop or even rewind the sound in the middle of notes — without changing the pitch • Granular synthesis allows you to create instruments or effects from a recording, that do not sound like the original, yet retain its realistic, natural sound • FX units: Frequency modulation, ring modulation, echo/delay, distortion, and a low-pass filter with resonance control Sylo Synthesiser also supports Core MIDI: play music from another device via MIDI. Additional features: • Use existing audio files as the building-blocks of your instrument: import audio from wave, aiff, mp3 and aac/m4a files • Save recordings to your iPad or to online storage providers • Save your new instruments to the preset list for quick access • Exchange audio with other apps via AudioCopy/AudioPaste or "Open in..." (where supported) Please note: The microphone button in Sylo Synthesiser is for recording sound into the synth, to use as the basis for new instruments — not for making a permanent record of what you play! (We've heard from a couple of people confused about this so we thought we'd make it clear!) If you wish to record your performances, you can use the Record button in the toolbar for this purpose.

Dimensional Chorus Plugin (AUv3) DimChorus is an audio effect plugin that can run standalone, or in any AU compatible host application such as Logic or GarageBand. Overview DimChorus is a stereo chorus "dimension" effect inspired by the simple button operated circuits found in a famous guitar pedal and a legendary analog synth from the 80's. While not intended to be an exact replica or emulation of either of these, DimChorus uses similar processing under the hood and embraces the vibe and simplicity of a bygone era! The chorus effect is achieved by modulating the time of a delayed version of the dry signal, and then mixing the two. Typically, these delay times are very short, between 5 and 20ms. The "dimension" effect is slightly different, in that it uses two stereo chorus effects in parallel, with different modulation rates and depths, which makes the periodic nature of the effect less obvious, and is often referred to as being three-dimensional! Simply add DimChorus to any sound that you feel is a little dry or one-dimensional, then set the Mode and EQ to taste. Parameters Active - Toggles the effect On or Off. Mode - Select one of the three modes, from subtle (I) to pronounced (III), or somewhere in between (II). EQ - Applies a high or low pass filter to the chorussed sound only, making the overall effect darker or brighter. In the Normal position, the EQ is "flat". If you are interested in other flavours of the chorus effect, please check out the OkChorale, LcrChorus and Wobulator plugins. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: DimChorus at 5.0 against Sylo Synthesiser's 4.1. DimChorus also leads on monetization model (free vs paid) and device support (4 vs 1). Sylo Synthesiser's advantage is review sentiment (79% vs 50%) and ratings volume (25 vs 5). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
DimChorus holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sylo Synthesiser has 25 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of Sylo Synthesiser's written reviews are positive against 50% of DimChorus's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
