Spirax Sarco would like to introduce our free application to assist customers in identifying the right steam tools for the job. Spirax Sarco is the global leader in the supply of engineered solutions for the efficient design, maintenance and operation of industrial and commercial steam systems. The Steam Tools app enables quick and easy access to both our Steam Tables and a Saturated Steam Pipe Sizing tool. The Steam Tables cover the thermodynamic data for water/steam, supporting the design and operation of expert steam/water equipment. You simply need to enter a pressure or a temperature into the app, returning: - The corresponding pressure or temperature. - Water (hf) (Sensible Heat) - Evaporation (hfg) (Latent Heat) - Steam (hg) (Total Heat) - Specific Volume Steam The pipe sizing tool allows access to Saturated Steam pipeline data, helping you to size a pipeline. To enhance the feature set, both tools offer the output of this data into a range of different standardised units. Download today to get access to this useful tool, and the opportunity to see what else Spirax Sarco can offer. You can also sign up to our service and we will keep you up-to-date with future enhancements of our application and provide you with details our steam solutions. Pypley calculates flow rate, pressure drop, and pump performance for circular pipe systems with Newtonian liquids. Build serial pipe systems using a pump database, fittings, and valves, with support for custom pumps and fittings stored via iCloud. Designed for hydraulic and process engineers, Pypley supports early-stage design and quick estimations. Key Features: * Converts all project parameters between Metric and US Imperial units. * Calculates flow rate, pipe velocity, and pressure drop in pipes. * Generates pressure loss tables for fittings and pipes in the system. * Includes native and customizable pump database. * Adjusts pump performance via speed (RPM) and impeller diameter. * Plots pump and system performance curves. * Computes K values for fittings using 3K and 2K methods. * Determines Reynolds number for each pipe diameter. * Calculates pipe friction factor using the Colebrook equation. * Reports pump discharge pressure and pressure at each pipe’s start. * Evaluates NPSHr and NPSHa to assess pump cavitation risk. * Supports custom fitting lists with Kv/Cv coefficients or pressure/flow data. * Detects negative pressure in pipelines. * Identifies when centrifugal pumps reach maximum flow capacity. * Organises projects chronologically, with newest first. * Provides an expanded pipe material library with enhanced data. Pypley is a design tool for hydraulic and process applications, ideal for initial designs or rapid calculations. Note: Pypley does not support parallel or network flow analysis. Disclaimer: While we strive for accuracy and will address any issues, the developer is not liable for errors or omissions in Pypley’s calculations.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Pypley at 83% against Steam Tools's 32%. Pypley also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 27 months). Steam Tools's advantage is price (Free vs $2.99) and rating (2.9 vs 1.0). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Steam Tools is free to download; Pypley costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Steam Tools holds the better App Store score, 2.9 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Steam Tools has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 32% of Steam Tools's written reviews are positive against 83% of Pypley's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Steam Tools ships an update every 27 months, Pypley every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
