Ideas strike while walking, driving, or waiting in line. Typing is too slow, and voice memos can't be searched. EchoJot: tap the mic and start talking — the text appears as you speak, and you end up with a searchable note. No account. No subscription. No network permission at all — your voice never leaves this phone. GENUINELY OFFLINE DICTATION, TWO ENGINES Your phone's built-in on-device speech recognition writes text as you speak. Or use the Whisper model bundled inside the app — included at install, never downloaded — which transcribes after you stop and needs no system speech settings. Neither goes online; both work in airplane mode. NO RECORDING IS KEPT The system engine writes no audio at all. The Whisper engine holds the recording only as a temporary file while transcribing, and deletes it right after. Nothing is left to leak. LIVE TEXT With the system engine you see words as you speak; long passages are split into sentences and punctuated for you. The Whisper engine transcribes the whole take after you stop, punctuation included. FULL-TEXT SEARCH Search across everything you have ever said. EDIT AND SHARE Fix anything misheard, then share or export. ZERO NETWORK PERMISSION Verify it yourself in system settings. PAY ONCE 30 free notes; one unlock for unlimited notes and full export. Never a subscription. REQUIREMENTS iOS 15.6 or later. The System engine uses the system's offline recognition for your language (provided by iOS — Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish and more). The Whisper engine ships its own model and works out of the box. If system recognition is unavailable, the app says so plainly and offers Whisper with one tap — it will never send your voice to a server just to appear to work. For meetings, ideas, spoken drafts, and anyone who cares about privacy.
