Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Bookshelf at 4.7 against ECPI Mobile 2.5's 2.0. Bookshelf also leads on ratings volume (80K vs 22) and update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 3 months). Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Bookshelf holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Bookshelf has 80K ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 21% of Bookshelf's written reviews are positive against 31% of ECPI Mobile 2.5's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Bookshelf ships an update every 6 weeks, ECPI Mobile 2.5 every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
