Oventrop vs Building Commission
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Oventrop
This app assists with the design, calculation, and documentation of hydronic balancing for heating systems. It supports various standards and regulations, enabling users to calculate valve presets, heating loads, and radiator sizes. Documentation can be generated in PDF format or printed wirelessly.
- Project design with calculations (VdZ, BEG)
- Heating check according to EnSimiMaV and DIN SPEC 15378
- OV-DMC 3 measuring system integration
- Simplified heating load calculation (DIN 12831)
- DIN radiator and thermostatic valve sizing

Functions: • Project design incl. calculations for procedure A or B (VdZ, BEG) • Heating check according to EnSimiMaV und DIN SPEC 15378:2018-08 • OV-DMC 3 measuring system for adjustment/control measurement in heating and cooling systems • With valve identification for the new double regulating valves HydroControl and HydroCom • Simplified heating load calculation according to DIN 12831 • DIN radiator sizing (existing or new) • Sizing of thermostatic valves • Sizing of double regulating valves • Creation of ErP energy efficiency label • Unit converter • Oventrop News • Oventrop Contact Oventrop GmbH & Co. KG offers an app to support the execution and documentation of the hydronic balancing of heating systems. Whether on the construction site, at a consultation appointment or in the office, users of the OVapp can calculate the preset values of the Oventrop thermostatic valves and regulating and pipeline valves at any time with their smartphone or tablet and thus easily carry out the hydronic balancing of heating systems. In addition, a simplified heating load calculation according to DIN EN 12831-B3 or a radiator sizing with DIN radiators is integrated. The OVapp can be used to fulfil the requirements of procedure A and B of the VdZ form (individual measure) for hydronic balancing within the framework of the Federal Funding for efficient buildings (BEG) for existing buildings - procedure B is possible when using the Q-Tech thermostatic valves with flow control. The calculations can be documented using a PDF file or WLAN printer. The VdZ form is filled out automatically according to the designs. Furthermore, the OV-DMC 3 measuring system for the adjustment and control of heating and cooling systems is integrated. Pressure measurements can be carried out easily with the OVapp and the measuring sensor, flow values can be determined and presettings for the desired volume flows can be determined. With the ErP wizard there is the possibility to create ErP energy efficiency labels as composite labels for Oventrop products in the field of solar thermal energy. Furthermore, an extensive manufacturer product database of the VdZ with ErP-relevant products can be accessed.

The EcoStruxure Building Commission mobile application is designed to improve the commissioning processes by providing users access to SpaceLogic IP Controllers and peripheral I/O devices directly via their mobile devices. EcoStruxure Building Commission allows for: Reduced commissioning time: Does not require an EcoStruxure BMS server to be present in the system. Users can get started configuring controllers as soon as they are powered. Simplified workflows: Provides users with the exact tools they need to carry out their tasks. Direct configuration and programming: Users can configure settings, upgrade firmware, and load applications directly to their SpaceLogic IP Controllers. Report generation and status check: Users can generate and view input & output reports, balancing reports, and diagnostic reports as well as check status of the progress. Elimination of dependencies: Allows for projects to work around obstacles, and eliminate dependencies on network infrastructure. There are two ways to connect EcoStruxure Building Commission mobile application to SpaceLogic IP Controllers: 1. IP Network - setting up a Wi-Fi access point or direct connection to your network, you will be able to connect your mobile device with all SpaceLogic IP Controllers on your local wireless network. 2. Bluetooth - The EcoStruxure Building Commission mobile application can connect to a single SpaceLogic IP Controller via the SpaceLogic Bluetooth Adapter (which is directly connected to a SpaceLogic Sensor) or directly to an RP-C/RP-V controller via its onboard Bluetooth capability.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Building Commission at 100% against Oventrop's 44%. Building Commission also leads on ratings volume (16 vs 1). Oventrop's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 3.5) and update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Oventrop holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Building Commission has 16 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Oventrop's written reviews are positive against 100% of Building Commission's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Oventrop ships an update monthly, Building Commission every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
