Chaos Lab puts the beauty of chaos in your hands. With a tilt of your device, you control the parameters of beautiful mathematical objects called strange attractors, the reaction rates of a chemical oscillator, the position of two stars in a 3-body chaos simulation, and the shape of the Julian fractal. Now you can be an experimentalist and an artist. Using real-time integration of over 6,000 points for the attractors whose parameters are tied to your motion, over 7,000 data points for a fractal which morphs at your command, ten "asteroids" demonstrating chaotic sensitivity to initial conditions in a jittering twin-star system where the stars move with your tilt (can you keep them from escaping?), and a real-time BZ-reaction simulation which you control by both tilt and touch, this is chaos as you've never seen it before. Chaos Lab comes loaded with four of the most stunning attractors in chaos theory. The Rössler and Lorenz attractors are well known, but the Thomas and Newton-Leipnik attractors are relatively new and quite amazing! This work has been supported in part by grant PHY-0754081 from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Nonlinear Dynamics Research Group at Drexel University (directed by Dr. Robert Gilmore), and the Department of Physics at Drexel University. Please note, some of these experiments will run slower on the older models of iPhones and iPod touch devices. Find the beauty in the chaos!
Curvia

**Most people never get to see how beautiful mathematics really is. Curvia changes that.** Behind every equation hides a shape — glowing, breathing, impossibly intricate. Curvia lets you see those shapes, and play with them, with no math required. Drag one slider and a Fourier series draws a heart. Nudge another and a strange attractor blooms into a slow three-dimensional storm. You don't study the math here. You feel it. It's the math class you wish you'd had: not problems to solve, but wonder to fall into. **A hundred ideas of mathematics, made visible** • Curves — harmonographs, roses, spirographs, the Fourier machine that draws a heart. • Attractors & Chaos — Lorenz, Aizawa and other strange attractors, tumbling in 3D. • Fractals — Koch snowflakes, Sierpinski, dragon curves, Pythagoras trees. • Escape-Time sets — Mandelbrot, Julia, the marbled Lyapunov, and more. These aren't decorations. They're the real, famous objects of mathematics — the ones usually trapped inside textbooks — finally something you can touch. **See the formula behind the beauty** Tap once and the equation appears beneath any piece. The point isn't to teach you — it's to let you fall for the math first, through its beauty, so the symbols stop being scary and start being magic. Wonderful for the curious, for kids, and for anyone who was ever told they're "not a math person." **Made to feel effortless** • Live sliders — every move reshapes the figure instantly. • "Surprise me" — one tap reveals a whole new piece. • Hand-tuned glowing palettes. • Tap the heart to keep the ones you love. **Keep the wonder with you** Save any piece to carry a little mathematical beauty on your screen — as an image, a video, or a true live wallpaper that animates when you press your lock screen. (Live videos and live wallpapers are part of Curvia Pro, a one-time unlock.) No account. No clutter. Everything stays on your device. Math is the engine. Wonder is the product. > *Curvia isn't a math tool and it isn't a design app — it's an invitation to see that mathematics was beautiful all along.*

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Chaos Lab at none against Curvia's 1. Curvia's advantage is iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Curvia sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Chaos Lab asks for nothing beyond the download.
Chaos Lab ships an update every 3 days, Curvia every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
