Electromag is an educative application in support to a high-school or university course of electromagnetism. It contains not only a memorandum of the basic equations, but it also contains approximately twenty animations illustrating the various concepts of electromagnetism. This application runs also on iPad and iPod Touch 3rd generation and later. 50 screens of electromagnetism! For teachers !! Connect your iPad with a video projector and show the animations to your students in classroom. List of covered subjects: Electrostatics: Coulomb'sLaw, Electric Field, Gauss Theorem, Electric Potential, Capacitance. Electric Current: Current and Resistance, Circuits. Magnetism: Magnetic Field, Magnetic Fields Due to Currents, Electromagnetic Induction, Inductance. Electromagnetism: Maxwell Equations, Wave Equation. Physical Constants. Each section contains at least one animation of which some in 3D. List of animations: - Coulomb's law, - Electric field lines, - Movement of a charge in electric field, - Electric dipole, - Lead-acid battery, - Torque on a current loop (in 3D), - Charge in magnetic field, - Cyclotron, - Induction field due to a current in a long straight wire (in 3D), - Generator (in 3D).

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Electromag at 5.0 against Ripple Tank's 4.4. Electromag also leads on price ($1.99 vs $5.99). Ripple Tank's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 45%) and ratings volume (7 vs 2). On update cadence, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Electromag costs $1.99 and Ripple Tank $5.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Electromag holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 7 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 45% of Electromag's written reviews are positive against 86% of Ripple Tank's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Electromag ships an update every 9 months, Ripple Tank every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
